Schwimmen, also known as Thirtyone, is a popular card game originally from Germany and Austria that has been gaining popularity in the US. Unlike traditional advertising, this game review will provide an overview of the gameplay mechanics and objectives in a more professional manner.

Schwimmen is a commerce-type game where players strategically exchange cards with those laid out on the table in order to increase the value of their hand. The main objective of the game is to obtain a hand with as close to 31 points as possible, using three cards of the same suit. The point values are as follows: the ace is worth 11 points, while the king, queen, jack, and ten are each worth 10 points. The remaining cards – 9, 8, and 7 – are assigned their face values.

The game begins by dealing three cards to each player and placing three additional cards face down on the table. The first player has the option to either accept their initial hand or swap their cards with those on the table.

Once this decision has been made, the cards on the table are turned face up and the next player, proceeding in a clockwise direction, takes their turn. During each turn, players may choose to exchange one card from their hand with one of the cards on the table.

In both the first and last rounds, players have the option to pass instead of exchanging a card. It is important to note that passing is allowed after every turn. Additionally, players can opt to exchange all of their cards with those on the table, in which case they must pass automatically.

When all players except one have passed, that remaining player receives one final turn before the game concludes. It is worth mentioning that if a player manages to accumulate exactly 31 points, their cards are turned face up and an additional turn is given to all players before the game comes to an end.
